Why the panchang on most astrology websites does nothing for you

Every astrology website shows today's panchang. It changes every day, so it feels personal. It is not. Here is what your real panchang looks like.

Open any Indian astrology website. At the top, you will see a panchang. Today's tithi. Today's nakshatra. Yoga. Karana. Sunrise. Sunset. Rahu kaal. It changes every day, so it feels personal.

It is not personal at all.

The panchang on these websites is the same for every person who visits the site. Your friend in Bangalore sees the exact same panchang as you. It is not "your" panchang. It is just today's calendar.

Think of it like the weather report

The TV says "today it will rain in Mumbai." That is true for everyone in Mumbai. But it does not tell YOU whether to carry an umbrella, or whether YOU should move your meeting. The weather is the same. How it affects you is different.

The panchang on those websites is the weather. To turn it into something about you, three more things have to be added.

What your real panchang needs

1. Your nakshatra

The Moon was in some nakshatra when you were born. That is your janma nakshatra. Today, the Moon is in some other nakshatra. The relationship between these two is called Tarabala.

Some days, today's nakshatra is friendly to yours. Some days, it fights with yours. The website does not know your nakshatra, so it cannot show you this.

2. Your natal Moon

Today's Moon is sitting in some place compared to where the Moon was when you were born. Some positions support you. Some drain your energy. This is called Chandra Bala. The website does not know where YOUR Moon is, so it cannot tell you.

3. Your dasha

You are running some planetary period right now. Maybe Saturn. Maybe Jupiter. The dasha colors everything. A good day in a difficult Saturn period feels different from the same day in a Jupiter period.

The website panchang has no idea which dasha you are in. So it cannot use this.

What your real panchang sounds like

On a website, today might say: "Vishakha nakshatra. Yoga: Shobhana. Rahu kaal 3-4:30 PM." That is true. But the website cannot say what this means for YOU.

For you, with your chart, the same day sounds more like this:

Vishakha is your 5th nakshatra. That is a Pratyari day for you - there will be friction in social situations. The Moon is also in your 4th house from your natal Moon, so your energy is low. Your current Saturn period adds slowness. Today is for routine work and rest. Avoid the difficult conversation if you can.

That is a reading. The website widget cannot do this.

Where to read your real panchang

This is exactly what your daily Rashifal on AstroPal does. It uses your kundali to read today against your chart. Your Tara, your Chandra Bala, your dasha - all included.

If you have not made your kundali yet, it takes one minute to set up. After that, every Rashifal you read is about you - not the city.

The simple point

A website panchang tells you what kind of day it is. Your Rashifal tells you what kind of day it is FOR YOU. The first is a public calendar. The second is a reading. They are not the same thing.

The next time a website says today is "auspicious," ask one question: auspicious for whom?

Read your own chart
