Tarabala - Your Personal Day Rating

How the nine taras are calculated from your birth nakshatra and what each one means.

Tarabala is the most personalised element of your Today reading. It gives you a one-line headline and a quality tag (favourable, mixed, or careful) that is specific to your birth nakshatra.

HOW TARABALA IS CALCULATED: 1. Identify your birth nakshatra (the Nakshatra the Moon occupied when you were born). This is fixed from your birth chart. 2. Identify today's nakshatra (the Nakshatra the Moon currently occupies). This changes roughly every day. 3. Count the number of nakshatras from your birth nakshatra to today's nakshatra (counting inclusively from your birth nakshatra forward). 4. Take that count modulo 9 (divide by 9, take the remainder). If the remainder is 0, use 9. 5. The resulting number (1-9) picks one of the nine Taras.

EXAMPLE: Birth nakshatra: Rohini (4th nakshatra). Today's nakshatra: Hasta (13th nakshatra). Count from Rohini to Hasta: 13 - 4 + 1 = 10 steps. 10 mod 9 = 1. Tara 1 = Janma.

WHY THE SAME DAY DIFFERS FOR DIFFERENT PEOPLE: If one person is born in Rohini and another in Ashwini, they count from different starting points to the same today's nakshatra. The resulting Tara number - and therefore the day's quality - differs. This is why your Today reading gives you a personalised result, not a generic one.

THE NINE TARAS:

Tara 1 - Janma (Birth Star): Quality: Mixed. Your birth star day. The Moon is in your own nakshatra - familiar territory, but not ideal for new ventures. Good for self-care and reflection. Headline: A day to stay on familiar ground.

Tara 2 - Sampat (Prosperity): Quality: Favourable. A prosperous, opening day. Good for financial decisions, new projects, and expanding opportunities. Headline: A prosperous, opening day.

Tara 3 - Vipat (Danger): Quality: Careful. The danger star. Avoid significant risks, travels to unfamiliar places, and irreversible decisions. Headline: A day to move carefully.

Tara 4 - Kshema (Well-being): Quality: Favourable. A safe, steady day. Good for routine, family matters, and consolidation. Headline: A safe, steady day.

Tara 5 - Pratyari (Obstacle): Quality: Careful. A day of obstacles. Things may not go as planned; expect friction. Good for patient work that does not require external cooperation. Headline: A day to keep a low profile.

Tara 6 - Sadhaka (Achiever): Quality: Favourable. A productive, can-do day. Efforts connect with results more easily. Good for completing tasks, meeting deadlines, and taking decisive action. Headline: A day to get things done.

Tara 7 - Vadha (Destruction): Quality: Careful. A draining day. Energy and plans face unseen obstruction. Keep activity minimal; avoid confrontation. Headline: A day to slow down.

Tara 8 - Mitra (Friend): Quality: Favourable. A friendly, social day. Cooperation, partnerships, and social interactions go well. Good for meetings, negotiations, and collaborative work. Headline: A friendly, social day.

Tara 9 - Ati-Mitra (Great Friend): Quality: Favourable. Your strongest day in the 9-day cycle. Everything you initiate finds support. Make your most important moves on this day. Headline: Your strongest day.

Key Takeaway

Tarabala is why two people on the same day get different readings. It is the relationship between today's Moon nakshatra and your birth nakshatra.
