How to Calculate Your Saade Sati

Calculating Saade Sati is straightforward once you know your Vedic Moon sign (Rashi). Here is the step-by-step method.

STEP 1 - FIND YOUR VEDIC MOON SIGN

Your Moon sign in Vedic astrology (sidereal zodiac) is the sign the Moon occupied at your birth. This differs from Western astrology by roughly 23 degrees (ayanamsa). If you only know your Western Moon sign, subtract one sign to get your approximate Vedic Moon sign - but always confirm with a proper Vedic chart.

STEP 2 - IDENTIFY THE THREE TRANSIT SIGNS

STEP 3 - CHECK SATURN'S CURRENT POSITION

Saturn changes sign every 2.5 years. You can check Saturn's current sign in any Panchang or on the AstroPal current phase page. If Saturn is in any of those three signs, you are in Saade Sati.

STEP 4 - DETERMINE THE PHASE

Saturn in the sign before your Moon = Rising phase (Pratham Dhaiya) Saturn in your Moon sign = Peak phase (Madhyama / main Saade Sati) Saturn in the sign after your Moon = Setting phase (Antima Dhaiya)

WHICH MOON SIGNS ARE CURRENTLY IN SAADE SATI?

In the Vedic sidereal zodiac, Saturn's sign transits differ from Western tropical dates by roughly 23-24 degrees. Using sidereal ingress dates (all approximate - retrograde periods shift exact entry by weeks to months):

SANITY CHECK

Always verify with exact sidereal Saturn ingress dates and your own chart. Retrograde periods can briefly pull Saturn back into the previous sign, so the start and end dates can shift by a few months. Use the Vedic (sidereal) zodiac for all Saade Sati calculations, not the Western tropical zodiac.
