Grading Markesh Power and Strength
Vedic strength analysis decides how loudly a markesh speaks.
Knowing WHO the markesh is tells you little until you grade HOW strongly it plays the role. This is where the strength tools from Module 1 earn their keep. AstroPal's Markesh analysis (Kundali, the Other tab) computes this grade for your chart; here is the reasoning inside it.
Start with the role weight. A planet ruling the 2nd house carries more maraka charge than one ruling the 7th; occupants carry less than lords; planets merely conjoined with a maraka lord less again; the 12th lord least. A planet holding several roles at once (say, 7th lord also sitting in the 2nd) stacks them.
Add the planet's nature. Natural malefics (Saturn, Mars, Sun, Rahu, Ketu) express maraka duty more sharply. Natural benefics express it more gently - a Venus markesh presses through overindulgence and depletion rather than collision.
Then the Vedic condition
- Debilitated, combust, or sitting in a dusthana: the planet's protective side is compromised, so its periods drain vitality more easily.
- Exalted or strong in Shadbala: the planet delivers its agenda decisively. For a malefic markesh this means its windows deserve real respect. For a strong BENEFIC markesh, classical experience says the period presses on that planet's worldly portfolios - money, duty, relationships - more than on the body.
- Weak in Shadbala: effects show as low energy and slow recovery rather than events.
Finally, the mitigations. A great benefic (Jupiter or Venus) as markesh in its own sign or exaltation is considerably softened. Benefic aspects on the maraka houses pad the walls. A strong Lagna lord, as always, absorbs most of what gets through.
