Jupiter Enters Leo on 31 October: Your 12-Week Window Before It Turns Back
Guru leaves its exalted seat in Cancer for Leo on 31 October 2026, turns retrograde in December and slips back in January. Here is what that short first visit means for each Moon sign.

Jupiter (Guru) is the planet of growth, children, teachers and good advice. It moves into Leo on 31 October 2026. But it only stays for about twelve weeks before turning back. On 13 December it stations retrograde at roughly 3 degrees of Leo, and on 24 January 2027 it slips back into Cancer. It does not return to Leo for good until 26 June 2027.
So Jupiter's time in Leo comes in two parts: a short stay now, and a longer one from June to November 2027. What you start in the next twelve weeks is likely to show results in the second part.
Why leaving Cancer matters
Cancer is where Jupiter is exalted, which is its strongest sign. While Jupiter was there in 2026, many charts saw support in family, property and faith. Leo is also a friendly sign for Jupiter, but it brings different themes.
In Leo, Jupiter brings focus to children, creative work, students and exams, investments, romance and leadership. These are fifth-house matters, and Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac.
Key dates
What it means for your Moon sign
Vedic astrology reads transits from your Moon sign, your rashi, not your Western Sun sign. Jupiter classically gives its best results from the 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th houses counted from the Moon. Here is how Leo falls for each rashi.
These are general effects. Your own chart decides how strongly each one applies to you, mainly through your running dasha and the strength of Jupiter at your birth.
Example: two people with different Moon signs
Picture Harpreet Kaur, a 29-year-old nurse in Brampton, Ontario, whose Moon is in Aquarius. Jupiter in Leo is in her 7th house, the house of marriage. She has been in a relationship for two years, and both families have been waiting to talk about marriage. November is a good time for that conversation. The retrograde from mid-December does not cancel it, but details such as the date and venue may take longer to settle.
Now picture Rohan Mehta, 34, a software tester in Leicester with his Moon in Capricorn. For him, Leo is the 8th house: shared money, insurance, tax and paperwork. This is not a bad sign. It is a good time to sort out things like an old pension transfer or a large home repair before winter. Jupiter in the 8th helps people who deal with these matters instead of putting them off.
How to use the retrograde
Retrograde Jupiter is not a bad sign. In Vedic astrology a retrograde planet is often considered stronger, because it is closest to Earth. From 13 December to 13 April, it is better to review than to start new things. Go back over a course you enrolled in, check the numbers on a property, or get back in touch with a teacher or mentor.
Many people abroad visit India in December or January. If you are travelling then, it is a good time to talk with elders about family land, a sibling's wedding, or where your parents want to live as they get older. Jupiter represents elders and advice, and its retrograde period suits conversations you have been putting off.
A simple practice for this transit
The classical upaya for Jupiter is simple. Many families chant the Guru beej mantra, Om Graam Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah, on Thursdays. The opening syllables are seed sounds with no dictionary meaning, and the closing words mean "salutations to the Guru". Another traditional act is daan on a Thursday: giving study material, books or school fees to a child who needs them. In Toronto, Sydney or Leicester, that can be as simple as a donation to a local library literacy drive or a gurdwara or mandir education fund.
Other planet changes in 2026 and 2027
Other planets also change sign in this period. On 5 December 2026, Rahu moves into Capricorn and Ketu into Cancer. In June 2027, Saturn enters Aries, a few weeks before Jupiter returns to Leo. With two major planets changing sign close together, mid-2027 is an important period.
Your transit reading only becomes accurate once it meets your birth chart. Two Aquarius Moons can have very different 2027s depending on the Mahadasha each is running and where Jupiter sat when they were born.
