Budha-Aditya Yoga
Mercury conjunct the Sun - intelligence backed by confidence.
Budha-Aditya Yoga is formed when Mercury is in conjunction with the Sun - in the same sign as the Sun. This is one of the most common yogas in Vedic astrology.
Why Common: Mercury is always within roughly 28 degrees of the Sun in geocentric astronomy. As a result Mercury and the Sun are in the same sign in a substantial fraction of all charts.
The Combustion Question: Vedic astrology considers Mercury combust when it is too close to the Sun (classically within about 14 degrees). A combust Mercury loses some of its independent voice - it becomes absorbed in the Sun's expression. The strongest form of the yoga is when Mercury is in the same sign but outside the strict combustion zone.
Effects: The classical effect is intelligence backed by confidence. Mercury alone gives quick reasoning. The Sun alone gives identity and authority. The combination produces a person whose ideas come with conviction - they can stand up and speak, hold a position in argument without losing themselves.
In modern life this shows clearly in fields where reasoning has to be performed in public: teachers, lawyers, doctors, business analysts, writers, founders, and public-facing technologists.
The yoga has a confidence dimension sometimes underestimated. People with Budha-Aditya Yoga frequently start careers with a natural readiness to be heard. Used well, this accelerates a career. Used poorly, it produces overconfidence that has to be corrected later.
Dasha Activation: Mercury Mahadasha (17 years) and Sun Mahadasha (6 years) are the primary activation windows. The Sun Antardasha within Mercury Mahadasha is often where a defining career moment occurs.
Key Takeaway
Budha-Aditya gives intelligence with conviction - ideas that come with the confidence to be heard.
