Venus Turns Direct on 14 November: Don't Text Your Ex Just Yet
Venus has been retrograde since 3 October, and it dips into Virgo, its weakest sign, before turning direct on 14 November. Here is what the last six weeks were about, and how to read the next six.

Retrograde Venus is often blamed for problems in love. The Vedic view is more balanced. A planet looks like it moves backwards when Earth overtakes it, and at this time Venus is closest to us and brightest. Its themes, which are love, beauty, comfort, money, marriage and vehicles, are not weakened. They turn towards the past: what you already have and what you left unfinished.

Why Virgo makes this retrograde unusual
Venus is debilitated in Virgo, its weakest sign. Virgo is the sign of analysis and perfection, and Venus is the planet of pleasure, so the two do not mix well. From about 5 to 22 November, many people become very critical of their partner, their looks or their finances.
This can also be useful. If your relationship or budget needs an honest review, this is a good time to do it, as long as you are kind about it.
What the retrograde means for you
Retrograde Venus is read through the houses it moves across in your chart. From your Moon sign, Libra and Virgo fall in different houses, and that is where the review happens.
Examples: two readers
Picture Tanvi Desai, 28, a marketing coordinator in Leicester whose Moon is in Pisces. Retrograde Venus is moving through her 7th and 8th houses. In October her ex from university messaged her after three years, and she is tempted to reply. The Vedic advice is to use this time to understand what went wrong, not to repeat it. If talking still feels right in December, after Venus has fully moved on, she can take it seriously. Until then, she should keep it casual.
Now picture Jasraj Singh Toor, 35, who owns a car dealership in Surrey, BC. Venus also rules vehicles, luxury and contracts. Jasraj has seen deals fall through at the last minute in October, which is common when Venus is retrograde. He should renegotiate and sign again from late November, when Venus is back in Libra.
What retrograde Venus is good for
A retrograde is not only a list of things to avoid. Retrograde Venus is a good time to repair things: a friendship that has cooled, a hobby you dropped, or a sibling you have not called properly in months. It is also a good time to go back to an old skill, such as singing, painting, dancing or playing the harmonium.
For couples, it is a good time to talk honestly about the relationship you already have, rather than make big new plans. Couples who use October and November to talk, rather than to decide, often find their decisions in December much easier.
Money, purchases and weddings
The classical advice is to avoid starting new Venus matters while Venus is retrograde: engagements, wedding dates, large luxury spends, vehicle deals or cosmetic procedures. Since Venus turns direct on 14 November, the simplest guidance is to wait until after 22 November for anything you want to last, and ideally until mid-December for the biggest commitments.
For weddings, many panchangs also observe Venus combustion and other restrictions, so check the muhurat for your specific date and city, not just the retrograde.
Other transits in November
The end of Venus retrograde overlaps with three other shifts. Mercury turns direct on 13 November, a day before Venus, so communication and paperwork clear at the same time. Mars enters Leo on 12 November, which adds confidence and energy. And Jupiter has been in Leo since 31 October, aspecting Aquarius, Sagittarius and Aries. By the end of November, the transits are much better for love and agreements than they were in October.
A simple Venus practice
The traditional upaya for Venus are about beauty and generosity. Many families chant Om Draam Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah on Fridays; the opening syllables are seed sounds and the words mean "salutations to Shukra".
